About

Abstract

Autonomous vehicles are an important topic when considering design problems relating to both current and future transit networks. The concerns raised surrounding autonomous vehicles relate to several factors, including safety and navigation of complex situations, intersections and train crossings. Thus, the question of if current road infrastructure needs to change to accommodate large scale adoption of AVs, or if the vehicle controllers themselves need to be created with the ability to safely navigate without infrastructural assistance.

This project intends to approach designing autonomous vehicle controllers, intersections and the transit networks  through the use of evolutionary algorithms to identify optimal designs and contribute to the future implementation of safe, efficient roads.
