About

Abstract

Educational Program Reporting System (EPRS), a secure web-based system proposed by Wink
(Team 8) that centralises educational data, automates calculations, generates report cards, predict
and traces learner performance through analytics dashboard. Learner academic data in Western Cape
Government juvenile facilities is still managed manually, with marks captured in Excel and report cards
compiled in Word. This is slow, error-prone, hard to standardise, and difficult to align with the
Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). Facilities therefore require automated calculations,
standardised reports, and role-based access to sensitive data.
EPRS is built with ASP.NET Core and Blazor, organised into components, application services and Entity
Framework Core data access. It runs on Microsoft Azure, using Microsoft Entra ID for staff
authentication and SmarterASP.NET, MSSQL database for storage. QuestPDF generates reports and
ClosedXML handles spreadsheet import and export. The main findings are that the system replaces
manual spreadsheet and template steps with automated mark calculation, term-window mark
capture, an approval workflow that finalises marks and archives versioned report PDFs, and analytics
that flag at-risk learners. Audit logging and feature-level permissions give accountability and control
over sensitive data.
Over many automated tests supported verification, and testing exposed issues in concurrent data
access, moderated mark calculation and permission enforcement. Resolving these improved reliability
and data integrity. EPRS shows that an automated, role-secured and auditable platform can replace
manual reporting, giving facilities accurate and consistent learner data to support monitoring,
planning and responsible handling of personal information.
