Project Abstract: Village Health Laundry Management System
Business Requirement
Village Health identified improper disposal of disposable nappies in Vrygrond as a major contributor to environmental degradation and the spread of zoonotic diseases. While reusable nappies offer a sustainable alternative, their adoption is hindered by the lack of accessible and hygienic washing facilities.
Proposed Solution
The Village Health Laundry Management System is a cross-platform digital solution designed to support a community-based laundry service for reusable nappies. It enables residents to book laundry services via a mobile app or in person through laundry staff using a desktop interface. The system is tailored for low-resource environments, with offline capabilities, intuitive design, and support for low-end devices.
Design, Tech Stack & Architecture
· Frontend: React Native with Expo (mobile), Firebase-hosted web app (desktop)
· Backend: Firebase Realtime Database, Cloud Functions,
· Payments: YOCO integration for secure online and cash transactions
· Architecture: Microservices, role-based access and real-time syncing
Major Features

· Complaint logging and feedback
· Payment processing
· Usage reporting and analytics
· Admin controls for pricing
Summary of Conclusions
The Laundry Management System demonstrates how a tailored, low-cost digital solution can address complex socio-technical challenges in underserved communities. It offers a scalable model for health-focused innovation and lays the foundation for future funding and expansion.
