About

Abstract

SmartHarvest is a mobile-first, ML-powered platform developed in collaboration with UCT’s AgriCode team to support South Africa’s smallholder farmers. These farmers face climate challenges, poor soil health, and limited access to technology, information, and support services. The project addresses these gaps by providing machine-learning soil insights driven by real-time sensor data, personalized crop recommendations, and a community discussion forum to promote knowledge sharing and user engagement.

Key Business Objectives

  • Increase productivity and resilience in smallholder farming.

  • Promote inclusive access to Agri-tech.

  • Support climate-smart and sustainable agriculture.

System Features

  • Real-time soil monitoring through IoT sensors.

  • Dashboards and mobile alerts to guide timely decisions.

  • Farm registration & plot tracking with integrated harvest logs.

  • Community discussion forums for local knowledge exchange.

  • AI-driven crop recommendations, personalized per farmer and updated as new data arrives.

  • Home Page dashboard aggregating key crop, soil, and harvest insights in a single view.
