About

Abstract

Most Virtual Reality (VR) research on emotion elicitation focuses on high-arousal states like fear or joy, often overlooking emotions such as curiosity, anger, which are essential for exploration, motivation, and social connection. This study introduces a VR framework grounded in Panksepp’s Affective Neuroscience Theory, well established in neuroscience and affective computing but rarely applied in immersive VR. It examines the SEEKING (curiosity), RAGE (anger. We investigate how sensory and narrative design elements activate these systems individually and in combination, and assess responses using subjective and physiological measures. By linking design features to specific emotional systems, this work enables more targeted and meaningful affective experiences. Situated within HCI and XR research, the framework supports applications in education, mental health, and interactive media.
