Our project is based on a local NGO, Milk Matters, based in Cape Town. This organization collects, pasteurizes, and distributes human breastmilk donations across the Western Cape to be used for feeding premature and sick infants in prenatal hospitals.
In 2020 a dynamic mobile application and web application were developed using flutter and hosted on firebase. The applications were not officially deployed but were deemed to be fit for public use. Our project aim was to evaluate whether the claim of the applications being ready for deployment was true.
Our methodology involved quantitative, i.e., tracking feature usage, and qualitative approaches i.e. cognitive walkthroughs and heuristic evaluations to understand the usage of both systems and identify issues.
Both applications were found to be lacking certain functionality and had significant usability issues. The firebase analytics were recorded over a short period of time, therefore, did not provide significant data.
The test hypothesis that both the mobile and web applications were fit for official use after development in 2020 was rejected by the evidence in the findings of our project. Future work would include continuous monitoring of analytics over a longer period of time.
