TRAK: The UCT Residences Booking System

UCT Student Housing and Residence Life faces the following challenges: There is no system that allows students in UCT residences to book for desired facilities such as games, specified rooms or sports equipment. From the administrative point of view, they keep record of bookings in hard cover books which can get damaged easily and they also don’t allow for any backup options.

A web-based system, TRAK has been built to manage all tasks related to the booking and administration of facilities which are available within a residence.  Students are able to create a booking request for a particular facility, on a date of their choice and provide feedback after use. The Administrator is then in charge of approving and declining these booking requests made. They can also manage facilities within a residence i.e. add and remove facilities and generate reports on statistical analysis on student bookings and the facilities too. The last role within the system belongs to the residence manager who allocates administrative rights to those that require them.

All data will be stored securely online and will be easily accessible. This system will make the booking procedure within residences more convenient and efficient as it can be accessed from anywhere and at any time. TRAK is a highly useful system which will bring a substantial amount of business value.
