Abstract

South Africa Makes Online 3D Printing Portal

Background
South Africa Makes (SAM) is a Cape-Town-based business founded by Dr Riyad Domingo and Dr Cherise Dunn, this business provides low volume 3D manufacturing for medical, dental and research industry.

Goal
South Africa Makes has collaborated with the UCT Information Systems department to find a solution that makes order processing faster, easier and more accessible to the large demographic of clients who have used 3D printing before.

Outcome
Our team has built an online 3D printing platform that allows users to place orders online, request 3D design files and that has a comprehensive support function to assist clients who are new to the realm of 3D printing. The platform was built to cater to medical professionals and to allow medical industry to respond faster to supply shortages in critical situations such as the pandemic.
